In this sluggish economy, we're all looking for a way to make ends meet. This could be by finding a new or second job. But where should you go? Unfortunately, not every business is hiring right now. Even if they're hiring, it will be harder to get in with the company since so many people are finding work. What direction should you choose? What businesses are booming? Healthcare, government, and food services are the only jobs that are hiring. Obviously, you need experience in the healthcare or government industry. You don't necessarily need any in a food services job. With little to no experience, you can easily find a job within that specter. This article will show you all the tricks and tips.

It's very easy to find a food services job. The first thing you should do is to look in your local newspaper. Take a peek through the classifieds section and see if any restaurants are hiring. Most likely they would be hiring for wait staff, hostesses, and dish washers. These are the kind of jobs that require little to no experience. If you were a cook or have taking cooking lessons, then you might have a chance at applying for a chef position. If there are no ads in the paper for food services, then you should call up local restaurants. Look in your phone book for restaurants you may be interested in working at. They can usually tell you about how you can apply for a job, or if they're hiring.

If you're willing to work outside of your location, then you can find a food services job online. Try online job search sites such as this one. You will find more opportunities to work in the food services. Try broadening your search as well. Don't just type in food services. Instead, type in keywords such as “wait staff”, “hostesses”, or “dish washers”. This will help broaden your search.

When applying for jobs, be prepared to leave your résumé with them. Make sure that your résumé highlights your past experiences in the food industry. Even if you don't have experience in the food industry, you can highlight relatable skills. Note that you took cooking classes in high school or have past customer service experience. Everyday, employers receive tons of résumés. They are most likely going to skim through each one to see if any of them stand out. You only have 30 seconds to make yours stand out from all the rest. Not highlighting your skills will keep yours on the bottom of the pile.

During a possible interview, you may be asked to explain your qualifications. Don't use vague or one word answers. Specifically talk about your experience even if it was in another industry. This may help the potential employer re-evaluate you for the position. And as always, maintain a professional appearance and composure. Doing so may help you in getting the job.

As we all know, everyone needs food in their day to day life. The food industry is a great place to find a secure job. With these tips in mind, you'll be sure to score a position in a restaurant.
