The first impressions on the customers eating at the restaurants, cafeterias and other food service establishments are important. The food and beverage serving officials play an important role in establishing that first impression. These workers are responsible for welcoming the customers, escorting them to their seats, providing them with the menu cards, taking orders and also serving food and other beverages. Moreover, they are liable to answer the customer's queries, informing them and clarifying the special and regular dishes. They even play a major role in maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of the tables before the new customers take their seats. Cooperation in work is a major factor in these cases to maintain a proper work flow in a restaurant or any food station.

The majority of these officials are the waiters and waitresses. They are responsible for duties like taking customer orders, serving the ordered food and drink, preparing detailed bills and maybe sometimes accepting payments. These duties may vary from restaurant to restaurant. In cafeterias, where the dishes served are basically the same, efficient, quick and well-mannered service is expected from the waiters. In larger restaurants, where more complex and varied dishes are served, waiters take more time to serve properly and in an arranged manner. Sometimes, they even have to give suggestions about particular dishes. They may have to inform the customers about the ingredients of the available cuisine. Again, they keep track of the people consuming alcohol or any tobacco products. Sometimes, waiters may perform the duties that are designated for other personnel like escorting the guests to their respective places or even cleaning the table. Thus, no doubt, cooperation plays an integral part of the food service industry.

Bartenders are responsible for preparing drink orders placed by the customers at the bar counter or by waiters or waitress on behalf of the customers. They are also responsible for checking the identification of the customer before serving them a drink. They should also know the methods of preparing mixed drinks and serve them quickly and effectively. Bartenders are also responsible for preparing drink garnishes, stocking enough ice, glasses and other materials that are both common and uncommon at any bar. They also maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the bar and try to avoid over consumption of alcohol by a certain customer to avoid unwelcome circumstances. Sometimes bar tenders also serve as a cashier and serve food to those seated at the bar.

Greeting of the guests and keeping track of reservations and waiting lists is done by the hosts and hostesses. They are responsible for caring for the waiting guests until their seats are ready. They also make the guests sit at the appropriate table depending on the number of people. They also escort them to their table and also hand them the menu cards. Again, they docket reservations of tables, arrange parties, and also provide any special services required or ordered by certain customers.

Food service and beverage service workers make money both hourly and also on a monthly basis. Hence, earnings may be different. However, it is quiet an attractive career for many individuals.
